The objective of this work is to employ radiochromic films, thermoluminescent dosimeters and
chamber ionization identical situations irradiation, in order to assess their capabilities in
measuring peripheral doses. The growing number of survivors of childhood cancer has created
the need to investigate the cause of the sequelae of treatment. Measurements of peripheral
radiation (doses outside the target region) in radiotherapy increment the knowledge of the
subject and assist in the development of protection methods. As the radiation spectrum in the
periphery is different from that one found in the beam, energy independence supposedly offered
in radiochromic films can overcome the energy dependence found in chambers TLD and
ionization in order to discard the corrections when films are used. In this work the three
dosimeters were exposed to 6 MV beams, field 10 cm x 10 cm, 500 UM. The dosimeters were
placed at 0, 10, 17.5 and 30 cm from the central ray, under 5 cm water. The results showed
concordance among the data, but the values reported by the films have high standard deviation
and for more conclusive results is necessary to proceed with the irradiations, employing more
intense beams.
